SKEZI chooses Octopize as a partner to protect the data of the SKETHIS community

SKEZI, the French specialist in online cohorts, announces its partnership with Octopize, the Nantes-based deeptech company that has developed a unique software for anonymizing personal data. This partnership will allow SKEZI to ethically exploit the data from its SKETHIS e-cohort with the Octopize software, which ensures the privacy of sensitive data while maintaining useful information.

PRESS RELEASE

Data privacy at the heart of SKEZI's concerns

In September 2023, SKEZI launched the first quality of life observatory in France (cf. press release of September 12, 2023). This new device will make it possible to monitor over time the health-related quality of life in France thanks to the active involvement of citizens. Volunteers express themselves about what they are experiencing and will thus provide indicators that will allow them to participate in the public debate.

The data shared by the volunteers will be totally confidential and secured thanks to the SKEZIA by SKEZI collection software, co-constructed between researchers and patients. This software for collecting sensitive data, developed in France, meets all the requirements required by the RGPD. The data will be stored in a HDS certified server (Health Data Host) in France. To go further and guarantee volunteers the highest level of protection in the exploitation and sharing of their data, SKEZI has partnered with Octopize, to use their avatar anonymization method.

Octopize, the deeptech startup at the forefront of personal data anonymization

To exploit the data collected, SKEZI has chosen a leading expert: the Octopize deeptech. Thanks to its unique software for anonymizing personal data, Octopize protects privacy of individuals while allowing the exploitation of data with the same quality of information. Indeed, Octopize has developed an innovative technology that generates anonymous summary data (the avatar data) based on the original data. This avatar data, which has the same statistical properties as the original data, frees up the secondary uses of the data, so sharing becomes simpler, faster and secure. The avatar method, which was validated by the scientific community in 2023, with an article published in the journal Nature Digital Medicine (Link to the article), thus stands out for its compliance with RGPD regulations, its speed of execution, its transparency, its explicability, its high level of maintaining the utility of the data as well as the original structure.

A partnership at the service of innovation in health

With this partnership, SKEZI and Octopize combine their technological expertise at the service of innovation in health. Anonymization solves the paradox between the need to protect the privacy of individuals and the major challenge of sharing and exploiting data in order to advance research and innovation.

Jean-Philippe Bertocchio, CEO of SKEZI highlights ”This partnership is key for SKEZI, because the protection of individuals is at the heart of our concerns. By guaranteeing the volunteers of the SKETHIS e-cohort the anonymization of their data, they will be in a better position to share their feelings and thus participate in the measurement and improvement of the quality of life in France.

Olivier Breillacq, CEO of Octopize: ”We are thrilled to be working with SKEZI on the SKETHIS project! This collaboration marks a key step in the field of public data management. Octopize and SKEZI are committed to promoting innovation while ensuring respect for the privacy of individuals. Without data, there is no innovation. Without trust, no data.”

About OCTOPIZE

Proven privacy, unlocked data.

The ambition of Octopize, a deeptech startup, is to become the European leader in the anonymization of personal data thanks to its patented method: avatar. Marketed since 2019 in the form of software and a service, the avatar method was successfully assessed by the CNIL in 2020, encouraged by a fundraising of €1.5 million in 2021 and rewarded by the Prime Minister during the I-nov 2022 competition with new funding of €0.5 million. After the law, investors and the State, the scientific community in turn validated the avatar software in 2023, in the journal Nature Digital Medicine. Recognized for several years in the sensitive health sector (CHU, research institutes, Big Pharma, Medtech), Octopize is now accelerating its growth in telecommunications, insurance, automotive and banking.
